Responding to the Government’s Energy Security Strategy, Cameron Gilmour, Spokesperson for the Sizewell C Consortium, said:
“Today’s Government announcement is fantastic news for the UK’s nuclear industry. As we balance the need for greater energy security with our climate goals, the case for new nuclear has never been clearer.
Building on the legacy of Hinkley Point C by getting going with Sizewell C is the first step in that journey. Sizewell C will demonstrate the benefits of replication by building on the existing supply chain and learnings from HPC.
To get to 24 GW of nuclear by 2050 will mean a fleet build is required and an opportunity to look beyond Sizewell C to Moorside. It will mean tens of thousands of jobs for our 250+ members and big boosts to businesses, communities and regions across the country.
It is an exciting time for nuclear in the UK.”
