Sizewell C funding boost welcomed as catalyst for UK supply chain and nuclear innovation

The Sizewell C Consortium today welcomed the Government’s confirmation of a £14.2 billion investment to deliver Sizewell C, marking a landmark moment for British industry, energy security and the future of the UK’s nuclear supply chain.

This once-in-a-generation project will unlock opportunities for up to 3,500 UK-based suppliers, with 70% of the project’s construction spend to go to British businesses. More than £330 million in contracts have already been awarded to local firms, and thousands more opportunities are expected across sectors like construction, manufacturing, engineering and beyond.

The project will create thousands of jobs including 1,500 high-quality apprenticeships, ensuring a new generation of skilled workers is ready to support Sizewell C and future nuclear technologies – including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and other advanced systems vital to the UK’s clean energy ambitions.

The Consortium, representing more than 300 businesses in the UK nuclear supply chain, believes this investment sends a clear signal of confidence in British industrial capacity and the role nuclear can play in supporting economic growth, regional development and long-term energy independence.

Andy White, Senior Vice President of Amentum Energy & Environment International, said:

“We are hugely encouraged by the Chancellor’s financial commitment and the Energy Secretary’s declaration that new nuclear is an essential part of this country’s energy future.

“This is the biggest vote of confidence in British nuclear in a generation which will ensure the UK retains its world-leading nuclear workforce and is able to create high-skilled jobs for decades to come.

“We can now draw on learning from experience at Hinkley Point C, replicating the innovative approaches, and apply them at Sizewell C.“

Chris Conboy, Managing Director – Nuclear EMEA, AtkinsRéalis, said:

“Today’s announcements will strengthen the UK’s future energy security and cement its position at the forefront of the global nuclear renaissance.

“Investment in technology, projects and infrastructure across civil and defence nuclear and fusion will ensure that the skills, knowledge and experience of our world-class supply chain remain in the UK. Combined, today’s commitments will unlock efficiencies in delivery, accelerate the development of new technologies, increase the delivery rate of vital assets and infrastructure, and create thousands of new jobs.

“Sizewell C is a vital project that will maintain the momentum of the UK’s new nuclear programme and ensure a fleet approach to rolling out vital energy infrastructure efficiently. Alongside it, today’s successful outcome for Rolls-Royce SMR will be the catalyst that unlocks the potential of this new technology in our future net zero energy system to power industry and communities around the country.”

Simon Roberts, Vice President – Nuclear and Defence at Altrad said:

“Altrad welcomes today’s record funding for Sizewell C. The project’s sign-off will help secure the future of Britain’s nuclear industry, underpinning supply chain capabilities vital to next-generation technologies, including SMRs and AMRs.

“Today’s announcement by Government signals a renewed commitment to unlock major national projects, not just in energy, but across the wider infrastructure landscape, giving industry the confidence to upskill and invest.”

As the largest new-build project in a generation, Sizewell C is set to strengthen the UK’s energy resilience while creating significant industrial and employment opportunities nationwide.

Rachel O’Donnell, Business Unit Director – Resilience at Mace said:

“Today’s announcement is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for UK industry and the domestic supply chain.

“Alongside energy security, landmark public investment in Sizewell C will support jobs, skills and growth across the UK.

“For our business, the project’s green light is a signal to invest, innovate and employ in Britain – both for Sizewell C and a new age of nuclear deployment.”
